The lessons of history are timeless. The details, only insofar as they are necessary to extract and retain the lessons.

Start with thoughtful overviews like “The Lessons of History,” “Sapiens,” and Matt Ridley’s books.

I recommend history books (Durants, Sapiens) all the time. It’s just that I don’t think you need to go to school to “learn” history. Save school for the stuff that’s hard to learn on your own. Read literature, history, philosophy, etc. in your spare time because you love it.

“The Lessons of History” is itself a summary of a larger work, so consider this summary an inspiration to read Will and Ariel Durant’s poetic masterpiece. https://t.co/HnovVVatKU

The Story of Civilization. But I’m recommending reading “The Lessons of History.” Apologies for the ambiguity.

The Lessons of History by William Ariel Durant, which was actually recommended by one of the listeners in the first podcast. Great book. I really like how it summarizes some of the larger themes of history. Very incisive and, unlike most history books, is actually kind of small and it covers a lot of ground.
